Microsoft is discontinuing support for SMS- and phone call based multi-factor authentication (MFA)

category: Common News

Microsoft is discontinuing support for SMS- and phone call-based multi-factor authentication (MFA). As a result, SEAMK and Sedu will primarily use the Microsoft Authenticator app for student account authentication.

Starting next week, we will target communications on this topic to students who currently use SMS or phone calls as their primary MFA method.

If you receive a message next week with the following text in the subject line, you will need to change your MFA method to Microsoft Authenticator:

Action required: Update your multi-factor authentication method by November 30, 2026

You can already review your settings and, if necessary, change your authentication method by following the instructions on the Jelppari website https://jelppari.epedu.fi/en/instructions/multi-factor-authentication/  under “Change / update the Multi factor authentication method”

We recommend updating your authentication method to Microsoft Authenticator as soon as possible to ensure uninterrupted access to your services.
