Exam rules in brief
- According to the SeAMK examination regulations, any form of cheating or attempted cheating in an examination situation is prohibited. You may not bring anything extra items (e.g. a bottle, cap, phone, watch, jacket, backpack, etc.) into the room. If, despite this prohibition, a student is found to be carrying items or behaving in a prohibited manner during an examination, the examination will be failed.
- The general username and passwords are used to log in to the computer and are located on each table.
- You must remember your SeAMK username (e.g. K2801234) and password to log in to the Exam. Exam visitors log in with their own university ID (usually other than an email address).
- Exam visitors may not bring any paper or material into the room, even if the teacher has given permission. SeAMK students may only use the material in Frami A with the permission of the teacher.
- Please read the detailed Exam instructions on these pages carefully before arriving for the exam.
What is Exam
The Electronic Examination Service, EXAM offers a possibility to take course exams as well as maturity tests in exam rooms which have video surveillance (audio and video recording). In SeAMK there are two EXAM-rooms; one in Kampustalo and another in Frami A.
Students are advised to contact their teacher first before booking the EXAM. Both the teacher and the student should study the guidebook before making or taking the exam. Starting from September 2020, SeAMK has joined the group of universities who offer EXAM visits to another university. Exam visit means that you can take your own university’s exam in another university’s Exam room. Read the instruction for EXAM visit in English carefully before enrolling for an EXAM.
Opening hours
EXAM is open on Monday to Sunday from 8 am to 9 pm.
The Frami A room will change and due to this change the current room will be closed from 28.11., the new room will open during December. In the future, only exams defined by the teacher will be taken in Frami A room.

Exam visitors need to acknowledge that they can only access the Kampustalo EXAM-room when the SeAMK Library’s customer service is open. Always check the library customer service hours from the calendar on SeAMK-Finna’s front page.
In order to take an EXAM you first need to register in EXAM and book an available computer in the exam room. The electronic EXAM differs from the general examination regarding the surveillance and its electronic form and properties, so please read the exam instructions carefully.

Exam room locations and facilities
Kampustalo (EXAMvisitors and SeAMK students)
The EXAM rooms is located at in Kampustalo, (Kalevankatu 35, 1st floor) room C0066. EXAM visits can only be taken during the SeAMK Library’s customer service hours and EXAM visitors are recommended to use the library main door for entrance (C0-door). Look at the Kampustalo EXAM room location on map.
Frami A (only for SeAMK students)
SeAMK Frami A, fifth floor, room A530.10. Note! Maturity tests should not be written in this room.
Frami F (only for SeAMK students)
SeAMK Frami F, third floor, room F314.
Facilities
In the EXAM room access to other web sources is blocked and the exam PCs have only following programs available:
- Word
- Excel
- PowerPoint
- Windows calculator
- Notepad
- Adobe Reader
- Paint
- 7Zip
Headsets are included in each computer. If other software is needed in your exam, you cannot take it in SeAMK EXAM room.
In the Frami A EXAM room (only for SeAMK students) there are also Matlab, Python, Visual Studio 2019, Visual Studio Code and two of the computers have internet access.
Accessibility in taking an EXAM
When taking an EXAM a student needs to take into account certain conditions
The EXAM surveillance, certain limited time, the exam room, the equipment and the programs available set the certain limitations
- The weak-sighted examinee may have problems due to the weak contrast between the text and the background and the compact font.
- It is not possible to connect any aids to the system. Now it is not possible to take an EXAM with an assistant.
- The duration of the EXAM can be 45 minutes, 90 minutes, 120 minutes or 180 minutes, the exam time cannot be extended.
- You are not allowed to leave the exam room and come back when taking the EXAM.
If you are registered for an EXAM but cannot take the EXAM according to its rules due to unexpected changes in health, contact your teacher to agree with the exam arrangements.

EXAM room rules
- The EXAM rooms are located at Frami Campus in Frami A (Kampusranta 9A, 5th floor) room 530.10, Frami F, (Kampusranta 11, third floor) room F314 and in SeAMK Kampustalo, (Kalevankatu 35, 1stfloor) room C0066.
- There are surveillance cameras in the exam room that monitor the examinees. The recording video surveillance records both audio and video. The recordings are stored for six months and they can be reviewed afterwards if needed. SeAMK has provided a file description on the recording video surveillance, SeAMK acts as a registrar.
- By Registering for an EXAM, a student agrees to the recording video surveillance.
- A student needs a personal access key to enter the exam room. The key allows entrance into the Frami A building, into the Kampustalo and into the exam rooms. The access key should be tested beforehand, before taking the actual exam, e.g. by testing if the door to the exam room can be opened with it. If you do not have the access key, please contact the porter who is responsible for the information desk on the Frami F lobby (Securitas, 040 680 7615,vahtimestari@seamk.fi) and ask for the personal access key or its updating well before taking the exam.
- The door to the exam room should always be opened with the personal access key. The information collected from the access key is connected to your EXAM and to the video surveillance recording in order to verify your identity. Every student must use one’s own personal access badge; you are not allowed to let anyone else enter the exam room by using your access key. This procedure is part of the examination surveillance.
- Some randomly selected students may be asked to verify their identity before entering the exam room or in the exam room.
- You are not allowed to bring anything with you to the exam room except your personal access key and your id. To avoid all ambiguity, all watches worn/visible on the wrist are prohibited and lead to failing an exam. Examples of other forbidden objects by the exam point: telephone, watch, pencil case, drinking bottle, food, jacket, handbags or backbags. The lockers are available outside the door for storing your belongings. If you have a special permit from the teacher, you can bring study material with you into the exam room in the Frami A building. The locker must be emptied immediately after leaving the exam room.
- When registering for an exam, you will receive an email confirming your booking including also the number of the EXAM computer you need to use in the exam room. You can see the computer numbers next to the computers in the EXAM room. If you try to log in to the wrong computer, the computer notifies this and gives you the right computer number.
- Please note that you can take the exam only during the certain time you have booked. You cannot start taking the exam earlier than your booked exam time begins, even if the right computer would be available.
- A student should not leave the exam room in the middle of the exam, because it is not allowed to return to the room anymore.
- All unnecessary moving around or talking (either to yourself or with others) in the exam room is prohibited. It is not allowed to have any contact to other examinees.
- The computers available in the exam room can only be used for taking exams; it is not allowed to do anything else with them.
- If the exam cannot be completed or it is disturbed due to technical problems, instructions given under “Problem situations” should be followed. The instructions are available on the computer and outside the exam room next to the door.
- Any violations or negligence of any of these given rules lead to failing the exam. All the suspected attempts to cheat at exam will be investigated and cheating at exams can lead failing the exam or to other possible disciplinary procedures.

Problem situations during the exam
Problem situations
There is no technical help available while taking the exam. If the problem you face occurs in the listing below, follow the given instructions. If you cannot complete the exam, (the problem cannot be solved, or you cannot find the suitable solution from these instructions) follow this procedure:
- Log out from the computer
- Leave the exam room
- Notify the interruption of the exam and problem occurred by email to this address: jelppari@epedu.fi as soon as possible. Give the following information in your email message:
- the name and student number of the examinee
- the name of the exam’s study unit (preferably also the code for the study unit)
- the exact time of interrupting the exam (date and time)
- own description of the problem occurred
- Book a new exam time, whenyou obtain a notification that your interruption is being processed (and when you possibly obtain other specific instructions.)
Possible problems:
Problem: You cannot enter the exam room.
Solution: contact the porter at Info desk on Frami F lobby (Securitas, 040 680 7615, vahtimestari@seamk.fi) and ask for an access badge. If you still cannot enter the exam room, notify the problem according to the Problem situations instructions given above.Problem: The browser crashes OR you have accidentally closed the browser.
Solution: Restart the EXAM and log in with your own ID. Your exam continues.Problem: Technical problems with the computer (the computer restarts while taking the exam).
Solution: Wait for the computer to start up and login to the EXAM system, your exam might continue. If the exam does not continue, leave the exam room and notify the interruption according to the Problem situations instructions given above.Problem: Fire alarm or another alarm in the exam room.
Solution: Leave the exam room immediately. Notify the interruption according to the Problem situations instructions given above.Problem: Another examinee in the exam room is disturbing.
Solution: Continue or interrupt. In both cases, notify the interruption/problem according to the Problem situations instructions given above.Problem: Power cut or data communication failure.
Solutions: Leave the exam room. Notify the interruption/problem according to the Problem situations instructions given above.Problem: Having a seizure or other immediate need to leave the exam room.
Solution: Interrupt the exam and log out from the computer, if you can. Notify the interruption/problem according to the Problem situations instructions given above as soon as possible.Problem: Another examinee in the exam room is having a seizure or another unexpected situation.
Solution: Help. Continue or interrupt. In both cases, notify the interruption/problem according to the Problem situations instructions given above.Problem: You suspect that another examinee is cheating.
Solution: Complete your own exam. Notify your suspicions according to the Problem situations instructions given above immediately after the exam.

Registering for an EXAM
- Login into the system on: https://seamk.exam.csc.fi
- Use Firefox or Chrome browsers (not Internet Explorer)
- Prefer using your own computer.
- Login to the system with your own SeAMK identification (the same identification which you use to login into the computers at school premises, to other systems and to your email.)
- Register for an exam
- After registering you will have access to the EXAM desktop, on which you will see all the data on the exams you have registered for or which you have already completed.
- On the exam control (link on the left side menu), you can search for the exam you want to register for either by the name of the teacher or by the code of study unit or by the name of the course.
- You can also write the obtained direct link for the exam on the address bar
- Register for the exam by clicking the green arrow
- Book the time for taking the exam
- Choose the room for the exam from the menu: SeAMK EXAM Frami A530 or SeAMK EXAM Kampustalo C0066
- Choose a suitable exam time from the available exam times on the calendar
- The free exam times can be seen on the calendar
- The exams always start on the hour. Remember the number of the computer the system gives you (e.g. KEXAM-A530-01)
- You can change or cancel your booking by logging in to the system again before the time of the exam. Please remember to cancel the exam on time, so that the exam time is then available for others to use

Instructions for taking an EXAM
If you come to the exam room before your booked exam time begins, you can log in to the computer and wait for the exam to start. You can enter the exam room only ten minutes before the booked exam time starts, so that the previous examinee has enough time to complete his/her exam.
- Find the computer you were given (the number)to take the exam
- You have obtained the number of the computer by email after registering for the exam. You can take the exam only on the computer you were given.
- If you have forgotten the number for the computer, you can log in to any available computer in the exam room and the computer gives you the number for the right computer.
- Log in to the computer either by using the Finnish or English user interface depending on in which language you use the Windows or Office programs.
- Firefox browser will open automatically, and it opens the EXAM login website.
- Log in to the EXAM system with your own SeAMK username (for example k1300245) and password.
- If the exam time has started and you have the right computer, the exam will start immediately when you log in
- If the exam time has not started yet and you have the right computer wait until your exam time starts. The exam will start automatically
- If you do not have the right computer, the system will tell you the number for the right computer and the exam time.
- On the first page, you will see the examiner’s specific instructions for the exam. If there are no specific instructions, you will see the first page of the exam, meaning the exam questions for the first exam topic. Please note that the exam is divided into the different pages according to the amount of the exam topics determined by the examiner. Read the instructions carefully.
- You can answer the exam questions in preferred order
- The exam questions are closed (grey arrow). You can open the answer frame by clicking the question text.
- Navigating bar for the exam questions is under the answer frame of the program–arrows to left and to right, and in the blue covered box, you can see the name of the exam topic.
- If you use text editor, you can edit the text while taking the exam.
- The exam system will save the answers automatically in every minute, but you can also save the answers by using the save-button at the bottom page of the editor.
- You can see the remaining exam time on the upper edge of the page.
- Avoid closing the browser while you are taking the exam
- If you want, you can return to your previous answers by clicking the question again or by clicking the exam topic at the bottom of the page.
- When you have completed the exam, click Save and send the exam –button and then Confirm. You will exit the exam system automatically.
- Close the browser and log out from the computer. Do not turn off the computer. You can leave the exam room, even if you still have exam time remaining.
- If you must interrupt the exam, choose the Interrupt the exam-link at the right bottom of the page. Confirm the interruption, close the browser and log out from the computer. Do not turn off the computer.
If you cannot complete your exam or it is disturbed due to technical or other problems, follow the instructions given under “Problem situations”.

Taking an exam on the other university's EXAM room (EXAM visit)
SeAMK students
There is a possibility for SeAMK students to take an EXAM-test in another university. Here you can find the universities that offer this possibility.
When you’re planning to take your exam in another university:
- Before booking an exam at another university, check the rules and regulations of that university, the software available on the computers, opening hours and access to the exam room.
- Sign in to SeAMK EXAM with your username and password. (Reservation is always done in the EXAM of your own university)
- Search for the EXAM you are looking for.
- To book a time in another university, click “Exam room reservation from external institution”
- Choose the organization from the drop-down menu and after that the exam room.
- Now you see the booking calendar, choose a time and confirm your booking. (You will receive an email confirming your booking, including also the name or the number of the EXAM computer you need to use in the exam room). You’re shown the EXAM rules and regulations, and by accepting them you accept the recorded video surveillance.
- You can always check your bookings in your own SeAMK EXAM.
Remember to check the instructions of the university you are going to visit. They may differ from the instructions in your own university. - When you go to take your exam, you first log in to the local computers as instructed in the university guidebook and then you log into EXAM with your own university’s user id and password.
Students from other universities (Exam visits)

Instructions for making an EXAM visit to SeAMK
- Study well the general EXAM instructions.
- Make a reservation for your exam in your own university’s EXAM using your own university’s user id and password. Search for the right exam.
- When you start booking the EXAM room you need to choose the “Exam room reservation from external institution” and choose the room SeAMK Kampustalo. Then choose the date and time. Notice! SeAMK EXAM visit is only available on SeAMK library opening hours. Always check the opening hours on the Seamk library webpage.
- When you have confirmed your reservation, you will receive an email that summarises up your reservation (etc. the number of the computer and the date and time). In SeAMK EXAM room all the exam start on the hour.
- SeAMK EXAM visit room is in Kampustalo. There is a video of how to arrive in the EXAM room and a map of the locations.
- Arrive early so that you have time to announce your arrival to the library personnel where the clerk will check your id and show you how the lockers work (you should leave all your belongings except you id) and let you into the EXAM room. Study the SeAMK EXAM guide before entering the room.
- When you have entered the SeAMK EXAM room in Kampustalo, find your computer number, use the local login shown on the computer screen or on the wall to log in to the computer. After that choose the organization from the drop-down menu and log into EXAM with your own username and password.
- The exam rooms are monitored with video recording and sound surveillance. When you book a time in the SeAMK exam room, you consent to the SeAMK exam guidelines and the joint use of the video surveillance and eExam system information to verify students’ identity.
- If you have some medical issues and you need to take medicine etc. with you in the EXAM room, please contact the support at jelppari@epedu.fi
- In the EXAM room access to other web sources is blocked and the exam PCs have only these programs available: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Windows calculator, Notepad, Adobe Reader, Paint, 7Zip. If other software is needed in your exam, then you can’t take it in SeAMK EXAM room.
